Abstract
Trimethylolpropane tris-acrylate (TMPTA) has been obtained by the reaction of trimethylolpropane (TMP) and acrylic acid (AA) with calcium sulfate whisker as catalyst and cyclohexane and toluene as water-carrying agent. The effects of ratio of TMP to AA and the amount of catalyst on the reaction were investigated. The results showed that esterification rate of TMPTA can reach above 96.8% and its purity is 97.6%,respectively,under optimal reaction conditions of n(AA)∶n(TMP)=3.40,catalyst concentration of 2.0%,mixed water-carrying agents and in the presence of polymerization inhibitor, reaction temperature 98 ℃,reaction time 5 h,flow of air 15 mL/min.
