Cause and Treatment of the Recurrence of Varicose Veins after Varicotomy in Lower Extremity

Objective To analyze the causes and treatments of the recurrence of varicose veins after varicotomy in lower extremity.Methods Total 73 patients(85 lower extremities) with the recurrence of varicose veins after varicotomy in lower extremity were retrospectively analyzed.All of patients received reoperation according to the functions of deep vein,superficial vein or perforating vein,which were detected by PVL,duplex ultrasound and deep venography.Results The causes of reccurence were:remnent of the main trunk and partial branches of great saphenous vein(15 limbs),accompanied by the insufficiency of perforating veins(21 limbs),accompanied by the insufficiency of deep venous valves(44 limbs),the sequelae after deep venous thrombosis(5 limbs).Conclusion The causes and treatments of the recurrence of varicose veins after varicotomy in lower extremities were very complicated.The insufficiency of deep venous valves was the main cause resulting in the recurrence of varicose veins after varicotomy in lower extremities.The pre-opretive overall examination and the choice of correct opration were the key for avoidence of the post-oprative recurrnce of vecose veins.
