Abstract

OBJECTIVE:To explore the clinical efficacy and safety of ceftazidime for bacterial lower respiratory infection in children.METHODS:80 children with bacterial lower respiratory infection were randomly assigned to either intervention group(n = 40 cases) treated with ceftazidime 60 mg·kg-1 ·d-1 i.v in two divided doses or the control group(n = 40 cases) treated with ampicillin sodium 100 ~ 200 mg·kg-1·d-1 i.v in two divided doses for 5 days followed by comparison of the clinical efficacy between the two groups.RESULTS:The clinical efficacy of the intervention group vs.the control group was 95.00% vs.72.50% and the incidence of the adverse effect was 10.00% and 25.00%,and the differences were all significant(P 0.05).CONCLUSION:Ceftazidime is safe and effective for bacterial lower respiratory infection in children, and hence is worthy of being recommended in clinical practice.
