Abstract

AIM To investigate the impact of Dipeptiven ○R Alanyl Glutamine enriched parenteral nutrition on bacterial translocation and mucosa membrane structure of the transplanted small intestine in rats. METHODS Thirty Wistar rats undergoing small bowel transplantation were divided randomly into 3 groups: Chow group ( n =10) received standard rat chow; PN group ( n =10) recevied traditional parenteral nutrition solution only; and Dipeptiven group ( n =10) received Dipeptiven ○R Alanyl Glutamine enriched parenteral nutrition solution. Rats were maintained on their respactive diets for 7 d. RESULTS Chow group and Dipeptiven group maintained serum and mucosa membrane glutamine concentrations; DDipeptiven ○R enriched PN significantly increased mucosal villous height, mucosal thickness, crypt depth, and villous surface area compared with the PN group. The bacterial translocation rate in Chow group and dipeptiven group was 30% and in PN group was 60%. CONCLUSION Reasults demonstrate that the Dipeptiven ○R Alanyl Glutamine enriched parenteral nutrition solutions can improve the mucosal membrane stucture of the transplanted intestine and decrease the bacterial translocation rate.
