Abstract

Objective To study the impact of glutamine-enriched parenteral nutrition on the small intestine barrier of acute radiation enteritis rat. Methods Whole abdominal radiation(60Co γ-ray,8 Gy) was performed in SD rats. The animals were randomly divided into three groups,i.e,standard total parenteral nutrition(STD group,n=10) and glutamine-enriched total parenteral nutrition(GLN group,n=10) was used through intravenous infusion continuouslly for 7 days, and normal non-radiated animals(as control,n=10).The other indeces were measured by using the light microscopy,electron-microscopy,image analysis system. The percentage of intestinal bacterial translocation and bacteria in mesenteric lymph nodes were measured. Results The distribution of the small intestinal tissue fribronectin(Fn) was observed. The Fn was found in various layers of small intestine. The measurements of the distributive areas among crypts of small intestine increased significantly in the rats receiving GLN compared with that receiving STD.Conclusion The glutamine-enriched parenteral nutrition can improve the intestinal tissue Fn content and accelerate healing of the injured small intestinal epithelium,so that promote healing of the injured small intestinal mucosa injuried by acute radiation.
