Abstract
[Objective] To study the clinical characterestics and the laboratory tests features of decompensated primary biliary cirrhosis(PBC). [Methods] Sixty-six decompensated PBC with ascites(PBC group) were analysed. The clinical manifestations, the results of laboratory tests of the group were studied. [Results] Among 66 patients 61 were female. The average age was (53.7±9.9) years. The major symptoms in patients of the group were abdominal distention(90.9%), fatigability(87.8%), anorexia(62.1%), and pruritus(34.8%). The major signs included jaundice(75.8%), splenomegaly (68.2%) and hepatomegaly(57.8%). To compare the results of laboratory tests in patients of groups with decompensated cirrhosis (child-pugh class A and B, child-pugh class C), we found that ALT, AST, GLO, TC, TG, ALP, GGT, HB and PLT had no significant difference in both groups (P 0.05). [Conclusions] PBC mainly affects middle -aged women with abdominal distention, fatigability, anorexia, pruritus, jaundice, hepatosplenomegaly as presenting features. Liver function tests typically revealed a cholestatic pattern accompanied by markedly elevated ALP and GGT with positive for antimitochondrial antibody (AMA) and/or its subtypes anti-M2. Ursodeoxycholicacid can improve the abnormal liver function tests and clinical symptoms in PBC patients.
