Abstract

The amount of precipitation in West Liaoning Province is small and annual precipitation variation is obvious.The preservation rate of afforestation is not high over the years.Therefore suitable tree species is particularly important.The leaf cuticle thickness,ratio of water inside and outside cells,water holding capacity,the depth of root and water absorbing ability of root of 8 common afforestation tree species in Liaoning Province were investigated.YAAHP software was used to analyze the hierarchical multi-factor on these data and the coordinate comprehensive evaluation method was adopted to calculate the drought resistance of trees.The results showed that,Platycladus orientalis is the best afforestation tree variety for barren mountains in west Liaoning Province,Prunus armeniaca is proper for thin soil area,Robinia pseudoacacia,Elaeagnus angustifolia and Caragana korshinskii are not suitable for soil barren mountains.
