Abstract
The effects of chitosan as seed coating on physiological characteristics of cucumber and pepper seeds germination and seedling growth were studied. It was shown that the growth of seedling, the length and width of leaves in seeds treated with chitosan were higher than those of the controls. Coating with chitosan can also improve the physiological properties of the vegetables, such as chlorophyll content, root vigour, soluble protein and peroxide activity and so on. The results show that chitosan seed coating is of advantage to the growth of plants.
