Abstract
Objective:To access the value of Napsin A and thyroid transcription factor-1(TTF-1) expression in lung adenocarcinoma pathological diagnosis.Methods:50 cases of lung adenocarcinoma and 30 lung squamous cell carcinoma were retrieved from the file.Expression of Napsin A and TTF-1 was detected by immunohistochemistry on paraffin-embedded tissues.Results:(1) In 50 cases of lung adenocarcinoma,Napsin A and TTF-1 were positively stained in 42(84%) and 31(62%),respectively.Napsin A had a significantly higher expression rate than TTF-1.For a combination of Napsin A and TTF-1,44 cases were positive, with 88% diagnostic sensitivity.(2)Naspin A expression was detectable in 28 of 31 cases(90.3%) with well or middle-differentiated and in 14 of 19 cases(73.7%) with poorly-differentiated lung adenocarcinoma. There was no significant difference between the expression rates of the two.TTF-1 expression was demonstrated in 21 of 31 cases(67.7%)with well or middle-differentiated and in 10 of 19 cases(52.6%)with poorly-differentiated lung adenocarcinoma. The expression rates of the two had no significant difference, either. All the 30 cases of lung squamous cell carcinoma were negative for Napsin A and TTF-1.Conclusions:Napsin A is a more sensitive marker than TTF-1 in lung adenocarcinoma diagnosis.Combined use of Napsin A and TTF-1 might make improved diagnostic sensitivity.
