Abstract

Objective To detect the C-reactive protein (CRP) level in different stages of patients with type-2 diabetic nephropathy, and to explore the correlation between C-reactive protein and type-2 diabetic nephropathy. Methods A total of 216 patients with type-2 diabetes were divided into normal-albuminuria group (n=56), micro-albuminuria group (n=67), massive-albuminuria group (n=45) and terminal stage renal failure group (n=48) according to urinary albumin excretion rate and serum Cr level. And 60 healthy individuals were severed as control group. C-reactive protein in each group was measured by immuno-turbidity method. The differences of C-reactive protein level among the groups were statistically analyzed for exploring the relationship between CRP and diabetic nephropathy. Results C-reactive protein level in the groups of type-2 diabetic nephropathy was significantly higher than that of healthy control group, and C-reactive protein level ascended with the increasing of albumin excretion rate (P0.05). Multi-factor correlation analysis showed that C-reactive protein level was positively correlated with the course of disease (r=0.656, P0.05), creatinine (r=0.424,P0.05), and urinary albumin excretion rate ( r=0.681, P0.05). Conclusions There is a positive relation between CRP and diabetic nephropathy. CRP can be used as a new indicator for monitoring the disease condition in patients with type-2 diabetic nephropathy.
