Analysis of the clinical features of 200 patients with cosmetic dermatoses in Guangzhou in 2007

Abstract

Objective:To investigate the epidemiology characteristics of cosmetic dermatoses in Guangzhou in 2007. Methods:Data from 200 patients seen at the Ministry of Health Cosmetic Dermatoses Institution in Guangzhou were analyzed using a retrospective analysis. Results:Most participants were female. 83% of patients were 20~39 years old while 64.5% were office clerks,students or freelancers. Contact dermatitis was the main clinical manifestation which accounted for 89.50% of patients. 355 cosmetics varieties were referred,of which 311 (64.5%) were ordinary skin care cosmetics in forms of emulsion and water-based creams and 44 (22%) were special cosmetics. Cosmetics for acne caused the most severe adverse reactions. Conclusion:Contact dermatitis was the main cosmetic dermatoses in Guangzhou in 2007. Females were mostly involved,as well as office clerks and students. Ordinary cosmetics were most commonly used,and severe acne was seen.
