Surveillance on cosmetic dermatosis in Guangzhou City,2008

Objective To investigate the epidemiological characteristics of cosmetic dermatosis in Guangzhou City in 2008.Methods Retrospective analysis was used to analyze data of 240 reported cases of skin diseases caused by cosmetics.Results Young females aged 20-29 years(59.2%)were mainly involved,and the patients(66.3%)were mainly freelance,office clerks and students.The cosmetic contact dermatitis(93.8%)was the main clinical manifestation.A total of 502 cosmetic products were complained,of which 446 were ordinary skin care products including 224(44.6%)emulsion and water-based cream,and 56(11.2%)special cosmetics.Cosmetics for acne were mostly complained for causing severe adverse reaction.Conclusion The contact dermatitis is the main kind of cosmetic dermatosis in Guangzhou in 2008.Young females whose occupations are freelance,office clerks or students are mainly involved.Ordinary skin care products are mainly pathogenic factors.It is suggested that acne skin care products as special cosmetics should be monitored.
