Abstract
Objective To observe the effects of pterygium excision with conjunctival stem cell rotation autograft transplantation and pterygium excision combined with amniotic membrane transplantation and their recurrence rates 18 months after surgery. Methods The pterygium was dissected completely, including the proliferation tissue underneath, and then the adjacent healthy conjunctiva with stem cells or amnia was transplanted to cover naked sclera. The healed standands was that the corneal epithelium restored transparency without any pterygium tissue proliferation, otherwise it was seen as recurrence. Results The recurrence rates of pterygium excision with conjunctival stem cell rotation autograft transplantation and pterygium excision combined with amniotic membrane transplantation were 4.6% and 15.7%,respectively. Conclusion The pterygium excision with conjunctival stem cell rotation autograft transplantation is simple and easy to operate and significantly reduces the recurrence rate of pterygium.
