Abstract
Objective:To observe the combined therapeutic effects of pterygium excision and corneal limbal stem cell autograft transplantation in the treatment of pterygium.To find a effective way to ease patients' suffering and reduce the recurrence rate of pterygium after excision.Methods:Three-hundred thirty-eight cases(338 eyes)with pterygium were randomly divided into tow groups.The first group was treated simply by pterygium excision.The second group was treated by limbal autograft stem cells with conjunctival flap transplantation combined with pterygium excision.All patients had been followed up to compare the irritation symptom after surgery for 7 days and the recurrence rate and when it recurred were also included.Results:The second group had less irritation symptom compared with that of first group and the recurrence rate was obviously lower than the first group.Conclusion:Pterygium excision combined with transplantation of limbal autograft stem cells with conjunctival flap was an ideal and good method to treat pterygium.
