Study on Vocabulary Learning Strategy of English Colleges Students

Abstract

Vocabulary learning has been very hot in the field of second language acquisition since 1980s.Scholars home and abroad have done quite a few research on vocabulary learning and its strategy.As to the question whether L2 vocabulary are gained through intentional or incidental learning,researchers hold different opinions on this.Therefore,this thesis is a survey to Chinese EFL learners'vocabulary learning modes used by students of different vocabulary level.It aims to find out the correlation between vocabulary level and vocabulary learning modes and what vocabulary learning modes are frequently used by Chinese EFL lerners with different vocabulary levels.Based on the results of the survey,this thesis put forward that in order to enhance students'vocabulary level and enlarge their vocabulary,teachers should combine the intentional vocabulary acquisition and the incidental vocabulary acquisition based on the vocabulary level of students.The result from the survey has some useful implications for the teaching of English vocabulary.
