The Correlation between the Expression of BCRP and Clinical Pathological Parameters in Breast Cancer

Abstract

Objective To study the correlation of the expression of breast cancer resistance protein(BCRP)with clinical index and pathological parameters such as estrogen receptor(ER),progestogen receptor(PR),HER-2 and P53 in breast cancer.Methods The expressions of BCRP,ER,PR,HER-2 and P53 proteins were examined using immunohistochemistry.The correlations of BCRP with the clinical data as well as the pathological parameters were analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis nonparametric test and Spearman correlate test.Results The positive expression rate of BCRP in breast cancer was significantly higher than that in the adjacent normal tissues(64.39% vs 33.33%,X~2=9.323,P=0.002).The expression of BCRP in breast cancer tissues was not associated with histological types,age,clinical stage or lymph node metastases state,but significantly different between the pre menopause and the post-menopause patients(X~2=6.928, P=0.008).The expression of BCRP was positively correlated with the expressions of ERα(r=0.204,P=0.019)or HER-2 (r=0.246,P=0.004)respectively,but not correlated with P53 or PR.Conclusion The overexpression of BCRP in breast cancer has positively correlation with the estrogen level as well as the expressions of ERαand HER-2.
