Abstract

Objective To investigate the feasibility and results of application of Medpor(porous high-density polyethylene)framework used for construction of congential microtia and repair of deformited auricule after lesion and burn. Methods Total and partial auricule reconstruction was completed with combination Medpor framework insertion and temporoparietal fascia plus skin graft in one stage. The expanded temporal scalp was transferred to package Medpor framework for ears construction in scar baldness after burn. Results Twenty-three ears were constructed. Five cases in early group have high rate of serious complications with framework exposure in three people.Eighteen ears reconstruction in late group were satisfactory, looking natural outline and following no major complication such as Medpor exposure. Conclusion It is alternative clinically in auricular reconstruction and repair to use Medpor framework. We emphasize no tension principle and some details of the procedure, not ascertaining a long-term result.
