Abstract

The bed evolution of Oi River in Central Japan is studied with a 1-D numerical model of sediment transport. The characteristics of heterogeneous bed sediments are considered in the transport module. The observed data of the flow and sedimentation from 1981 to 1996 are adopted to determine the parameters for the model. In order to control the sedimentation of the downstream channel of the river, the relevant prediction of 30 years on the sediment transport in the river is made for different sand borrowing areas and the effects from the conditions with dam or without dam constructed on the river. Based on the calculated results, the river training scheme for both the downstream channel and the estuary of the river is put forward at last.
