Abstract

Objective:To investigate AIDS related knowledge and behaviors among the MSM in western China, where the HIV infectious rate among this group is relatively high,so as to provide clues to design strategies on HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment as well as behavior interventions. Methods:From July 2009 to April 2010,cross-sectional surveys were conducted among 1407 MSM in Chongqing,Sichuan and Guangxi. Results:The age medium was 26 years old.The homosexual and the bisexual occupied 69.26% and 21.40% respectively. The knowledge awareness related to AIDS was 88.37%.In the past 6 months,61.22% of them had sex with 2 or more men;7.42% had homosexual commercial sex;12.48% had sex with women. And 46.40% of them insisted on condom utilization each time during anal sex. There was significant difference in condom utilization among them when having sex with different persons(P0.05).There was a relationship between the condom utilization and the location and whether having more than one sex partners. Conclusion:Among MSM in western China, the HIV infectious high-risk behaviors are common, which is in contrast to their relatively high knowledge awareness rate. This should be viewed as a big challenge to the behavior interventions among MSM.As a result,it has great significance to explore a new intervention mode to control the HIV infection among MSM.
