Clinical efficacy of Tongxinluo capsule in the treatment of vascular dementia

Objective To observe the therapeutic effect of Tongxinluo capsule on vascular dementia (VD).Methods 80 patients with VD were randomly divided into treatment group and control group.40 patients in treatment group were treated with Tongxinluo capsule 3 capsules once,3 times a day;the other 40 patients in control group were treated with huperzine A tablet 0.1 mg once, twice a day, with a treatment course of 6 months for both groups.Results The total effective rates of Tongxinluo capsule and huperzine A were 67.50% and 52.5% respectively (P0.05).The scores of MMSE,HDS and FAQ in both groups were improved obviously, there was a significant difference between two groups (P0.01). The side effects of Tongxinluo were obviously fewer than those of control group.Conclusion Tongxinluo capsule is effective in treating vascular dementia, with few side effect.
