Abstract

Effects of salicylic acid(SA) on seeds germination and seedling growth of wheat under Cadmium(Cd2+) was studied. The changes of chlorophyll content, superoxide dismutase(SOD) activity, peroxidase(POD) activity, and malondialdehyde(MDA) content were tested. The results showed that germination rate, average root length and shoot length of wheat were inhibited under Cd2+ stress. The higher the Cd2+ concentration, the higher inhibition extent was.Meanwhile,SOD and POD activity and MDA content were increased;chlorophyll content was decreased. The germination rate, average root length, mean bud length and leaf chlorophyll content of wheat were increased by SA treatment. Moreover, the content of MDA was reduced;and SOD,POD activity were increased.SA could relieve the damage of Cd2+ on wheat seed and seedling to some extent.
