Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the applicability of serum cystatin C in patients with different degrees of hydronephrosis and with renal impairment. Methods: The value of serum cystatin C was measured by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA),serum creatinine(Scr) and blood urea nitrogen(BUN) were measured by method of enzyme, and glomerular filtration rate(GFR) was determined by 99mTc-DTPA clearance as a Gold Standard. Results: The value of serum cystatin C is significantly different among degrees of hydronephrosis and normal one(P0.01).GFR was correlated with serum cystatin C,Scr,and BUN(P0.01).Conclusion: Level of serum of cystatin C is a sensitive marker that relates to GFR.The value of serum cystatin C is a sensitive and reliable index for the evaluation of renal function.
