Abstract
Objective To study the treatment of acute attack of bronchial asthma with methylp-rednisolone. Methods The control group was given conventional therapy such as diprophylline, β2 receptor agonist, transfusion, vein-inputting, inhalansing oxygen etc. Besides conventional therapy for the control group, the experiment group was given methylprednisolone 80 mg/time, 2 times/day. The symptoms and signs, the arterial blood gas were recorded before the treatment and on the 2nd and 4th day after the treatment and the data were analyzed. 93 inpatients with bronchial asthma were divided into two groups. The experiment group had 48 patients and control group had 45 patients. Result Before the treatment, all patients of the two group had acute attack of bronchial asthma. The means PaO2 of the two groups were compared and the differences were not significant. The rates of perfect effectiveness were 79.17% and 95.83%, respectively, in the 2nd and 4th day for the experiment group and 62.22% and 77.78% in the control group:P0.05 in each of the group comparisons. Measures of PaO2 in the experiment group on the 2nd and on the 4th day after the treatment were respectively 62.22% (28/45) and 77.78% (35/45) mm Hg and in the control group the respective figures were (69.5±6.8) mmHg and (87.6±4.3) mmHg: P0.05 in the group comparisons. Conclusion Methylp-rednisolone is quick and effective in the treatment of acute attack of bronchial asthma, which may relieve asthma symptom and shorten the length of hospital stay.
