Abstract

Objective:To appraise the efficacy and side effects of escitalopram in treatment of senile depression. Methods:sixty senile patients with depression were treated with HAMD and TESS at the time of 1、2、4、6 weeks after treatment. Results: There was significant difference in the reduction of HAMD in both groups at first week. The reduction of HAMD was significant in both of these two groups at the time of 2、4、6 week after treatment. The incidence of cholinergic effect of escitalopram was n't less than that of paroxetine, but it took effects more quickly. Conclusions: escitalopram possessed efficacy similar to that of paroxetine.escitalopram is an effective antidepressant for senile depression,it could be demonstrated as effective and tolerable as paroxetine.
