The Formation of Aesthetic Anthropology, Its Status Quo in China, and Its Way Out

A new interdisciplinary subject integrating aesthetics and anthropology, aesthetic anthropology is of great value to the separate development of aesthetics and anthropology. Although it results from the differentiation of subjects in modernity and has the characteristics of modern subjects, studies on aesthetic anthropology since 1970s have gradually led to another aesthetic form deconstructing the western modern aesthetic tradition. Aesthetic anthropology began to develop in 1990s in China and remarkable achievements have been made ever since, but it still needs reinforcement in the reconstruction of theories, the integration of resources, the consciousness of research, and the methods of study in order to promote the construction of Chinese aesthetic anthropology.
