On Liang Qichao's Historical Ideology ——Discussion among Grades 97/98 Ph.D.candidates in modern Chinese history and their tutor

Abstract

The criticism of traditional Chinese history by Liang Qichao was cogent and comprehensive. He didn't just deny it thoroughly but made efforts to draw the reasonable cores from the traditional history instead; on the basis of severe criticism of the traditional history and enthusiastic introduction of the Western history, Liang Qichao advanced “revolution in history” and advocated “new history”, which made important contribution to the development of modern Chinese history. Its limitation confirmed in a way the regret of modern history; Liang Qichao introduced the Theory of Evolution into historical science and re considered the law of historical development, which wholly embodied the development of modern historical theory. All this mixed together with the evolution of modern Chinese ideology; Liang Qichao's historical ideology was pluralistic, containing both materialist factors and idealistic factors. And many causes led to this phenomenon.
