Abstract

Objectives To evaluate the effect of combined use omeprazole and domperidone for gastroesophageal reflux disease in children. Methods Seventy-six patients suffering from gastroesophageal reflux disease were enrolled in this study. All patients received both omeprazole and domperidone. The clinical manifestations,24-hour esophageal pH monitoring, findings of electrical gastroscopy, changes of mucosa biopsy and the adverse reactions before and after treatment were compared. Results The clinical symptoms had marked changes after treatment by omeprazole and domperidone. The index of 24-hour esophageal pH had obviously improved with significant difference(P 0.01).Reflux esophagitis were found improved after treatment by evaluating the result of electrical gastroscopy and mucosa biopsy with significant difference(P 0.01).There were no marked adverse reactions during the therapy. Conclusions There was definite effect of combined omeprazole and domperidone therapy for gastroesophageal reflux disease in children and no adverse reaction.
