Abstract

Objective To investigate the effectiveness of surgical and conservative therapies of patients with severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) .Methods Retrospective analysis was made of complication and mortality data of 132 cases of SAP in this hospital during the periods 1980- 1990( group A) and 1991 - 2000( group B). Results In group A the incidence of multiple organ dysfunction syndrome, infection rate and mortality were 56.8 % , 39.6 % , 43.1 % and 56.9 % , respectively; in group B, the data were 37. 8 % , 20. 3 % , 14.8 % , 85.2 % , and respectively, with a significant difference ( P 0.05) .Conclusions Non-operative treatment can cure the majority of the patients with SAP. The comprehensive treatment must be adopted according to the clinical characteristics of individual patient.
