Abstract

Objective To investigate the relationship of hyperuricemia and dyslipidemia in the rural senior residents of Ningbo,Zhejiang province. Methods A stratified random sampling method was used for the selection of male residents aged over 60 years and female residents aged over 50 years from the 12 villages of Ningbo city. The prevalence rates of dyslipidemia were compared between the senior residents with hyperuricemia and senior residents with the normal range of uric acid. Results The prevalence rates of dyslipidemia were significantly higher in the male and female rural residents with hyperuricemia than in the male and female rural residents with the normal range of uric acid(men:χ2=17.5,P0.01;women:χ2=32.2,P0.05),respectively.The hyperuricemia was also associated with the high concentrations of total cholesterol(TC),high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-c) and low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C) in female residents(P0.05).The results showed that hyperuricemia was the risk factor of dyslipidemia(OR=2.378,P0.05).Conclusion The hyperuricemia of senior rural residents is associated with dyslipidemia.Regular physical examination including the testing of uric acid can improve the early diagnosis and treatment of dyslipidemia.
