Abstract
Objective:To investigate the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in liver cirrhosis tissues, and to discuss the possible meanings of their roles in liver fibrosis. Methods: Fifty seven liver cirrhosis and 10 normal specimens were detected by immunohistochemistry (Envision). Results: The expressions of MMP-1 and VEGF were increased in liver cirrhosis tissues(χ2=8.233 and 10.876, P0.05). The expressions of MMP-1 and VEGF in liver cirrhosis tissues were uniform (χ2=2.23, P0.05). Conclusion: MMP-1 and VEGF may promote the development of liver cirrhosis.
