Tension:between Literature and Culture——Report on the Frontier Academic Research on Literature and Art in 2011

The research on Literature and Art in 2011 covers literary theory and cultural research.There are many outstanding achievements in the fields of Marxist literary and artistic theory,the globalization of literature,visual culture,western literary criticism,ancient Chinese literary theory,and concepts and methods of literary studies,which show the in-depth of multi-level and interdisciplinary interaction.The research on culture enriches,enlarges the traditional literary research,and transcends the limit of established academic system of literature and art.However,cultural studies,as post-discipline,are positive efforts of disciplinary union.Cultural studies can't replace literary studies because culture is only a dimension of literary studies.The researchers need shoulder heavy responsibilities to combine literary studies and cultural studies in both theory and practice.
