Abstract
Objective To clarify the effect and mechanism of serum adiponectin in the occurrence and development of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods According to the diagnostic standard regulated by WHO for diabetes mellitus,66 patients were diagnosed as type 2 diabetes mellitus. There were 30 health subjects, whose age and sex were similar with those in type 2 diabetes mellitus group.Radioimmunoassay(RIA) was used to determine all the objects' levels of fasting serum adiponectin and to determine their relevant indexes such as body mass index(BMI),fasting blood glocuse(FBG),fasting blood insulin(FINS),Homa-IR and urinary albumin excretion rate(UAER).Results The levels of serum adiponectin in the type 2 diabetes mellitus group were significantly lower than those in control group(8.26±2.21 ug/ml VS 13.79±2.56ug/ml,P0.01);Homa-IR in type 2 diabetes mellitus group was significantly higher than that in control group(1.48±0.78 VS 0.33±0.58,P0.01).In the same group, the adiponectin levels in non-obesity patients were significantly higher than those patients with overweight obesity(P0.01).At the same WHR levels, adiponectin levels were gradually reduced in the order of NC,type 2 diabetes mellitus.Adiponectin levels were negatively correlated with WHR and Homa-IR(P0.01).Conclusion There is a close relationship between serum adiponectin and insulin resistance in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.Serum adiponectin may play an important role in the occurrence and development of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
