Abstract
Objective To discuss the value of high-frequency ultrasound probes utilized for detecting thickness of tunica intima and tunica media of bilateral carotid arteries in the patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods All of 528 cases inpatients and outpatients were diagnosed as type 2 diabetes mellitus whose bilateral carotid arteries were detected in order to observe the bilateral carotid arteries lesion, such as thickness of tunica intima and tunica media, formation of plaque, character of plaque and thickened tunica intima and tunica media. Results Among the 528 cases,76.7% patients had thickened tunica intima and tunica media which differed in degree.60.9% patients had plaque in a certain extent.56.1% patients had not only thickened tunica intima and tunica media but also plaque. While the percentage of patients having thickened tunica intima and tunica media without plaque, having plaque without thickened tunica intima and tunica media and having thickened tunica intima and tunica media was 20.6%,4.9% and 8.5% respectively. The left carotid artery to detect various types of plaque 194 cases,60.2% of total number of cases, the right side of 128 cases,24.2% of the total number of cases,no significant difference between left and right side of the comparison(P0.05).Older than 55 years of age, disease duration longer than 10 years intima-media thickness were respectively 82.6%,87.2%;detection rate of plaques 65.1%,70.5%.Younger than 55 years of age, duration of less than 10 years intima-media thickness thickening were 51.0%,47.1%,plaque was detected in 42.9%,34.1%,and the difference of the two groups was statistically significant(P0.01).Conclusion High-frequency ultrasound is one of valid media that used to detect carotid artery diseases, and to provide reliable information to prevent and treat diabetes.
