Analysis of complications related to transurethral resection of the prostate

Abstract

Objective To investigate the complications related to transurethral resection of the prostate(TURP).Methods A retrospective analysis was carried out in 1650 cases treated by TURP.Results The complications included transurethral resection syndrome in 22 cases,intraoperative bleeding in 56 cases,postoperative bleeding in 20 cases,urinary incontinence in 6 cases,urethral stricture in 36 cases,bladder neck contracture in 25 cases and epididymitis in 20 cases.ConclusionThe key for prevention of the complications of TURP is perfect TURP procedures and effective prevention and management of the complications.
