Clinical studies of acupuncture treatment on dry eye syndrome

OBJECTIVE To observe the effect of the combination of acupuncture with drugs for the treatment of dry eye syndrome. METHODS In order to make a confirmation that the effect of the combination of acupuncture with drugs for the treatment of dry eye syndrome was better than that of drugs treatment,we collected 31 patients with dry eye syndromes, 5 of which were male and 26 were female. After regular examinations, patients were randomly divided into combination of acupuncture with drugs group and drugs group. The former group was treated by acupuncture and eye drops, while the later group was treated by eye drops. Follow up was made at the end of the treatment. The data of SIT, BUT, E2 and T were recorded and evaluated, as well as the effect. RESULTS Compared with eye drops group, the SIT and BUT of acupuncture plus eye drops group had significant statistical differences (P0.05). The effective rate of former group was 96.7%,while the control group was 80%,which had significant statistical differences (P 0.05). The two groups had no differences in Chinese medicine syndrome scoring after treatment. CONCLUSIONS The effect of combination of acupuncture with drugs for the treatment of dry eye syndrome was better than that of drugs treatment.
