Study on the of analgesic and sedative effects and acute toxicity induced by Shenxiong Huayu capsule

OBJECTIVE To observe the analgesic and sedative effects and acute toxicity of Shen Xiong Hua Yu capsule(SXHYC) in mice.METHODS The analgesic effect was tested by the hot-plate and torsivesive malposition in mice.The drug's sedative effect was developed by using subthreshold dose of sleeping induced by sodium pentobarbital.The maximum tolerated dose in mice was observed so as to study the acute toxicity of SXHYC.RESULTS SXHYC could inhibit writhing response induced by acetic acid and enhance hot plate pain threshold in mice.In addition,SXHYC enhanced the sleeping rate in mice affected by subthreshold dosage of pentobarbital sodium.The maximum tolerated dose of SXHYC in mice is equivalent to 384 times the clinical dose for adults.CONCLUSION SXHYC has obvious analgesic and sedative effects,and it is safe when acute use.
