Analysis of antibiotics usage in out-patient department

Abstract

Objective To investigate the condition of antibiotics usage in the out-patient depart- ment of our hospital and improve reasonable utilization of antibiotic drugs in clinics.Methods All prescriptions from out-patient department of our hospital in Apr.of 2006 were categorized statistically by searching the database of ORACLE of resources management platform of the First Hospital of Lanzhou University.Results Prescriptions containing antibiotics constituted 32.8% of the total prescriptions.Sum of money of antibiotic drugs constituted 13.63% of the total money of drugs,both indexes revealed decreasing tendency when compared with those in the same period of last year.Fluoroquinolone ranked first in the DDDs list in the recent 2 years,fol- lowed by cephalosporins,macrolides and penicillins.Injectable and oral antibiotic prescriptions constituted 49.3% and 36.6% respectively of prescriptions containing antibiotics.Conclusion The out-patient department resisted reasonable utilization of antibiotic drugs and the usage of antibiotics was improved when compared with the same period of last year,but the rate of usage of antibiotics,especially injectable antibiotics,became higher.Attention should be paid to those inclining to choose broad-spectrum,strong effective and new antibiotic drugs.
