Medius Pronouns in Huanggang Dialect

Medius pronoun is a special grammatical phenomenon in Chinese dialect,which is distinct from Putonghua (common speech of the Chinese language), thus it is of much value to discuss such a phenomenon so as to deepen our understanding of modern Chinese--including Chinese dialects and even ancient Chinese. The typical medius pronouns in Huanggang dialect speech community are of three types while those in the southwest along the Yangtze River are of two types. There are two forms of medius pronouns in Huanggang dialect: jie form and jue form. Referring to gender and intensity, the jie form usually serves as a grammatical element in a sentence and can be used alone as well. The jue form indicates place and must be used singly.
