Abstract

Propolis possess extraordinary property of antioxidant due to abundant flavonoids. In order to evaluate the extracting characteristics of dissimilar solvents, we adopted 8 different solvents with different concentration grads to extract propolis out of the same raw material and then compared the fading time of KMnO4 and eliminating rate of DPPH which represent the capacity of antioxidant ability. The results showed that alkali solvents possess a topmost extracting rate of propolis while ethanol and ammonia get a maximal rate of flavonoids in propolis accordingly with shortest time to fade the KMnO4 and most efficient property to clean the DPPH. Comprehensively speaking, extracting with high concentration rate of ethanol is the optimal means.
