A Controlled Study of Family Environment and Rearing Styles of Parents in the Patients with Social Phobia

Abstract

Objective To explore the features of family environment and rearing styles of the parents in the patients with social phobia. Methods Thirty-six subjects meeting ICD-10 criteria for social phobia (observation group) and 35 normal controls (control group) were investigated using the family environment seal-Chinese Version (FES-CV) and the Egma Minnen av Bardndosnauppforstran (EMBU) of Chinese version. Results Compared with those in the control group, the scores of factors of the cohesion, emotion expression, knowledge, entertainment and organization of the social phobia- family were decreased, while the scores of the conflict and control factors were increased (P0. 05 and P0. 01). The scores of the punished and refused factors were higher, while the socres of cared factors were lower in the observation group than in the control group (P0. 01). Conclusion Unhealthy family environment and rearing styles of parents were very important in the occurrence and development of the social phobia.
