Abstract
Figures of speech is playing an important part in the communication of writing and speaking . Based on analysis of metaphor, one of most common figures of speech, the paper does some comparative and contrastive research on phenomenon of metaphor between English and Chinese . The paper adopts the view that metaphor covers all Chinese figures of speech except simile .
