Abstract
In 0.01M potassium hydroxide solution,Alizarin Red S gives a reduction peak p_1 at-0.67V(vs.Ag-Hg electrode)at single-sweep polarograph. When calcium ions are added,p_1 decreases and a new peak p_2 appears at-0.77V.The peak current of the second wave is proportional to the concentration of calcium and is shown to be an adsorptive complex wave of calcium. The limit of detection for calcium is 4×10~(-8)M.It can be used to determine trace amount of calcium in serum. The mechanism of complex adsorptive wave has been studied and discussed.
