Abstract

This paper discusses differences between communication protocol and IEC 61850 standard with an introduction of the IEC 61850 communication system and its characteristics;and systematically analyzes the network topology of IEC 61850 standard;and further explores the advantages as well as the challenges of implementing IEC 61850 communication capacity.The paper also summarizes the substation structural models created based on IEC 61850 standard.
