Abstract

Objective:To study the innate immunity in rat models of vaginal candidiasis by detecting the content variation of polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMNS) and cfu in blood and vaginal fluids during the whole infection. Methods:All rat models were divided into three groups randomly. The first group was infected only once and the second group was infected twice. The contents variation of PMNS and cfu in blood and vaginal fluids of first and second groups were detected on days 2, 7 and 14 postinfection. The third group was control group. Results:The contents variation of PMNS and cfu in vaginal fluids and blood were highest on days 7 in both groups. According to the same days postinfection, the contents variation of PMNS and cfu in vaginal fluids and blood in the second group were higher than those in the first group, also the contents variation in vaginal fluids were higher than those in blood. The contents variation of PMNS and cfu in the third group in vaginal fluids were not deteced, which were lower than those in the other groups in blood. Conclusion:PMNS plays an important role in protecting against vaginal candidiasis, especially in secondary infection, and the local role is more important than systemic role. The innate immunity represented by PMNS plays a role in host defense mechanisms.
