Abstract
Objective To evaluate the effects of psychological counseling preoperatively in women undergoing elective cesarean delivery on preoperative anxiety scores, and the incidence of hypotension after spinal anesthesia. Methods Sixty women,ASA 2 level, undergoing elective cesarean delivery were randomized to a study group or a control group. All women scored their anxiety using the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale( S-AI) before the surgery. Those in the study group accepted psychological counseling by a nurse, meanwhile the control group patients accompanied by family members only. After 30 minutes, all the women scored their anxiety again using the same anxiety questionnaire( S-AI). All the women accepted spinal anesthesia with standard processes, and the level of anesthesia were determined by a anesthetist. The heart rate, noninvasive blood pressure, pulse oximetry, were recorded two minutes interval. Results The first anxiety scores had no different between two groups of patients( P0. 05),the second anxiety scores as well as the incidence of hypotension after spinal anesthesia, were lower in the study group than in the control group( P 0. 05). Changes in heart rate and pulse oxygen saturation, were no statistically differences between the two groups.( P0. 05). Conclusion The preoperative psychological counseling can not only reduce the patient's anxiety score, but also to reduce the incidence of hypotension after spinal anesthesia.
