The Chinese character 夭(yɑō) in the scriptions on the turtoise shells in Yin Dynasty is just like the drawing of a man running with his arms swaying.Through the evolution in the dynasties of Shang,Zhou and Qin,it becomes the character writen in the form of 夭 today.In Zhou Dynasty,a Chinese character 止(zhǐ) is added 夭 on the top,thus derived the character 走(zǒu,means walk or run).The character 示orinally was the pictograph of the ancient memorial tablet in a temple,and from the same origin,the characters 主 and are derived.The character 眚 and 省 are originated from the same source in ancient times.The meaning of the character 眚 can be guessed from the character 目 in it and the character 生 shows it prounciation.The orinal denotation of the character is to inspect and to examine oneself critically.
