Abstract
Objective To assess the therapeutic efficacy of Qinggan prescription in the treatment of fatty liver based on the quantitative computed tomography(CT) scan data as the major diagnostic and evaluation indicators. Methods Sixty patients with fatty liver(meeting the diagnostic criteria for fatty liver) were randomly assigned to treatment group(n =30) and control group(n =30).The patients in the control group received basic treatment including diet adjustment and physical exercise, while those in the treatment group were given traditional Chinese medicine Qinggan prescription(modified according to the syndrome) in addition to the basic treatment. The course of treatment was 12weeks for both groups. The symptoms, signs, liver functions(alanine aminotransferase(ALT),aspartate aminotransferase(AST),and AST/ALT),blood lipids(total cholesterol(TCh),triacylglycerol,low-density lipoprotein(LDL),and high-density lipoprotein),fasting blood glucose, and liver-to-spleen CT-value ratio(L/S ratio) were observed before and after treatment. Results Four cases in the treatment group and 3cases in the control group did not complete the treatment. The treatment group showed a significantly higher overall response rate than the control group(84.6% vs 51.9%,P0.05).The levels of alanine aminotransferase after treatment were significantly lower than those before treatment in the two groups(P0.05).Compared with the control group, the treatment group showed significantly more decrease in serum TCh and LDL levels and significantly more increase in CT value of the liver and L/S ratio(P0.05or P0.01).Conclusion Qinggan prescription has good therapeutic efficacy in the treatment of fatty liver.L/S ratio can be used as a more direct and objective indicator for judging the therapeutic efficacy.
