Abstract

Zhang Xuecheng,a famous scholar in Qing Dynasty,held a controversial view on the emperor examination though he tried balancing the conflicts all his life.Analyzing his academic works and his educational philosophy,it is concluded that there are two reasons for his controversial views.One the one hand,he was against the system because of the defects in the system and the cheatings in the examination;on the other hand,he supported the system because of the influence of Confucius and the way of talents selection.
