Zhu Xi:the idealist of correcting the imperial examination system

Zhu Xi,a rationalistic Confucian who practiced what he preached,exposed the abuses and the root of the imperial examination system in the Southern Song Dynasty.He believed that both the will of the people and the legal system should be changed.Firstly,the change of the will of people lay on the upper class' practice of finding pleasure in learning and understanding the principles and reorganizing the political system.Secondly,in the aspect of changing the legal system,he brought forward some idealistic propositions in the Propositions for Imperial Examination,which had a great effect on the imperial examination system in the Yuan,Ming and Qing Dynasties.Though he couldn't change the whole system of the imperial examination,he managed to adjust it noticeably,thus counteracting the malpractice of each link to a certain extent.
