Abstract

The fifth component of complement C5,one of the complement system,plays an important role in the inflammatory response.The result of the C5 convertase cleaves C5 is the release of C5a and C5b fragment.C5a,product of the activated complement system,is a chemotactic anaphylatoxin that mediates inflammatory responses.C5b initiates the membrane attack complex.In this review,the structure and function of C5a and C5b,and the immune diseases associated with C5 are summarized.
